Softball Recap: Floyd Central Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

Floyd Central waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Ballard Bruins. For the Highlanders, this counts as revenge for the 5-2 victory the Bruins walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2023.

Adeline Shultz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Shultz was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Elise Coleman was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Addy Ware was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Floyd Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.

Floyd Central's record now sits at 19-6. As for Ballard, their defeat ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 19-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Floyd Central will welcome Madison at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Ballard, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Bullitt East at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bruins 3.5, the Chargers 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
