Softball Recap: Westwood Comes Up Short

Westwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 11-0 to the Central Cobras. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 20-4 to the Cobras when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Henryunia Plain spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Westwood saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordyn Ladd, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Ladd hit this season.

Westwood's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-6.

Westwood and Central could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Westwood (ranked 485th) will meet Morningside Academy (ranked 182nd) at 3:00 p.m. on March 27th. Westwood has given up an average of 14.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. Meanwhile, Central will challenge Oxbridge Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday down 311 places (404 vs. 93).
