The Maple Mountain Eagles will challenge the Orem Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Maple Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Maple Mountain is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Spanish Fork, who was ranked tenth at the time (Maple Mountain was ranked 15th). The Eagles fell just short of the Dons by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday. That makes it the first time this season the Eagles have let down their home crowd.
McClain Carter made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Brettlyn Walker, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Orem never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past Summit Academy 22-0. Considering the Tigers have won seven contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ashton Belnap was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Belnap was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jaileigh DeMaria was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Cumorah Aiono, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Orem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .739. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in ten consecutive matchups.
Orem has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Maple Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-7.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Maple Mountain hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Orem struggles in that department as they've averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Maple Mountain got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March of 2025 against Orem by a conclusive 16-8 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
