Basketball Recap: South Bend St. Joseph Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Chicago Mt. Carmel

South Bend St. Joseph is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Chicago Mt. Carmel. The match between the South Bend St. Joseph Huskies and the Chicago Mt. Carmel Caravan didn't end well, with the South Bend St. Joseph Huskies falling 80-64.

When it comes to explaining why South Bend St. Joseph lost, don't look at Chase Konieczny. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 boards. That's the most rebounds Konieczny has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ethan Roseman, who scored 11 points and six assists.

Even though they lost, South Bend St. Joseph smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 25 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Cameron Thomas was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 34 points and ten boards for Chicago Mt. Carmel. The contest was Thomas' fourth in a row with at least 15 points. Noah Mister was another key player, going 6 of 12 to rack up 18 points.

South Bend St. Joseph's defeat dropped their record down to 16-3. As for Chicago Mt. Carmel, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-5.

Looking ahead, South Bend St. Joseph will head out on the road to challenge Mishawaka Marian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Chicago Mt. Carmel, they will host Leo at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Chicago Mt. Carmel's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches.
