Baseball Game Preview: La Salle Falcons vs. Canby Cougars

La Salle hasn't had much luck against Canby recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Falcons will face off against the Cougars. La Salle will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

La Salle is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Silverton 4-3.

Max Bishop spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Evan Hamlin and Torsten Hersom did most of the damage at the plate: Hamlin went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Hersom went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Those three hits gave Hersom a new career-high. Roscoe Mithoefer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Canby, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They never let North Eugene get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 11 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Canby is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for La Salle, their win bumped their record up to 20-8.

La Salle suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Canby in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
