Baseball Recap: Croatan Cougars vs. Swansboro Pirates
Croatan extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 8-12 in the process. They came up short against the Swansboro Pirates, falling 8-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cougars have suffered since April 7th.
Croatan saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Griffin, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Another was Weston Thomas, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
As for Swansboro, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games.
On Swansboro's side, Patrick Hollifield made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Hollifield has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
In other batting news, Josh Scott was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, Swansboro will challenge rival West Carteret at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Pirates 3.6, the Patriots 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
