Preview: Uxbridge Spartans vs. Oxford Pirates
The Uxbridge Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Oxford Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Uxbridge has four straight victories, Oxford has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Thursday, Uxbridge narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Southbridge 41-39. That's two games straight that Uxbridge has won by exactly two points.
It was another big night for Ethan Mccusker, who scored 17 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Uxbridge's points. The team also got some help courtesy of James Sanford, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, Oxford suffered a rough 64-44 loss at the hands of South on Monday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Oxford in their matchups with South: they've now lost three in a row.
Oxford's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brady Marqoupis, who scored 18 points, and Nolan Remington who scored 16 points. Remington is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last three games he's played.
Uxbridge's victory bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Oxford, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Uxbridge came out on top in a nail-biter against Oxford in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 52-50. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Marqoupis, who scored 26 points. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Uxbridge still be able to contain Marqoupis?
