Baseball Game Preview: Herrin Tigers vs. Mascoutah Indians

The Herrin Tigers will challenge the Mascoutah Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Herrin comes in on three and Mascoutah on six.

Herrin will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Marion, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Tigers came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 7-2 on Monday.

Herrin's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Carter McCree, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits McCree has posted since back in April.

Meanwhile, Mascoutah never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on Rochester with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won 17 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Mascoutah pushed their record up to 21-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Herrin, their win bumped their record up to 11-13.

Herrin couldn't quite finish off Mascoutah when the teams last played back in May of 2023 and fell 7-5. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
