Basketball Game Preview: Fort Dorchester Patriots vs. Waccamaw Warriors

The Fort Dorchester Patriots and the Waccamaw Warriors will compete for holiday cheer at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Monday, Fort Dorchester came up short against Goose Creek and fell 58-51. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The losing side was boosted by Kai Mack, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Layla Gullory was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Fort Dorchester smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Waccamaw might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Oceanside Collegiate Academy an easy 64-39 win. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while the Landsharks are ranked 24th).

Fort Dorchester's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Waccamaw, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
