Basketball Recap: Greeley Central Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Daniel Martinez and Neamiah Carrillo

Greeley Central lost against Thompson Valley back in January of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Greeley Central Wildcats took a 64-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thompson Valley Eagles. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Greeley Central had strong showings from Neamiah Carrillo, who went 9 of 16 en route to 23 points and three steals, and Daniel Martinez, who posted 17 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Ayala, who put up six points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Greeley Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Leading Thompson Valley to victory were Dominic Shideler and Rj Hale. Shideler dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 boards, while Hale went 12 of 27 on his way to 29 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Shideler is now averaging an impressive 2.5 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Morgan, who posted two points along with nine rebounds and four steals.

Greeley Central's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Thompson Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.

Greeley Central will head out to take on Berthoud at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Thompson Valley and Bear Creek will compete for holiday cheer at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bear Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season.
