The Garey Vikings are taking a road trip to face off against the West Covina Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Garey is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Garey is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against El Monte on Tuesday as Garey made off with a 22-6 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
The team relied heavily on Tatiana Navarro, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Ariel Beltran, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Garey always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .767. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Monte only posted an OBP of .440.
Meanwhile, West Covina can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 7-1 margin over Sierra Vista.
Leslie Baustista spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Ruby Pasag was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, two RBI, and one run. Danielle Diaz also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
The victory got Garey back to even at 3-3. As for West Covina, the win got them back to even at 3-3-1.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Garey hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .399. However, it's not like West Covina struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Garey might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from West Covina in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can Garey avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
