Softball Recap: La Porte Comes Up Short

If La Porte was riding high fresh off their 20-5 takedown of Merrillville on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Slicers fell just short of the South Bend Riley Wildcats by a score of 6-5 on Saturday. The Slicers haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Shayla Sorg and Evie Travis did some serious damage despite the final result: Sorg went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, while Travis went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that Sorg has snagged this season.

La Porte now has a losing record of 10-11. As for South Bend Riley, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Looking ahead, La Porte will be playing in front of their home fans against Hebron at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Slicers are facing the Hawks at the right time seeing as the Hawks are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for South Bend Riley, they will venture away from home to face off against South Bend Adams at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
