Baseball Game Preview: Oxford Prep Griffins vs. Vance County Vipers

The Oxford Prep Griffins will face off against the Vance County Vipers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Vance County took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Oxford Prep, who comes in off a win.

Oxford Prep proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 11) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Franklin Academy, sneaking past 5-3. The victory continues a trend for the Griffins in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won six in a row.

Hunter Woodlief was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Gage Hobgood, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Vance County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 20th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Warren County, falling 19-0.

Oxford Prep's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Vance County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Everything went Oxford Prep's way against Vance County when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Oxford Prep made off with a 17-1 victory. Will Oxford Prep repeat their success, or does Vance County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
