Softball Recap: SouthWest Edgecombe Gets the Win

SouthWest Edgecombe's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They never let the Greene Central Rams get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won eight in a row.

Mackenzie Moore was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Deniya Mayo also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Moore wasn't the only one working in the hit department: SouthWest Edgecombe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

SouthWest Edgecombe now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Greene Central, their loss was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-10.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars challenge North Pitt Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Pitt has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.5 runs per game on average), something SouthWest Edgecombe will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Greene Central, they will challenge Ayden - Grifton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Greene Central is facing Ayden - Grifton at the right time seeing as Ayden - Grifton is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
