Basketball Recap: Wakefield Takes a Loss

Wakefield played a tough contest on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Millbrook Wildcats, falling 77-56. The Wolverines were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-22.

Despite the loss, Wakefield still got an impressive performance from Avery Hicks, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance gave Hicks a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ethan Wisler, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 16 points.

Ashton King was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and ten boards for Millbrook. King is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Bowen, who went 5 for 10 en route to 17 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Wakefield and nudges their season record down to 9-8. As for Millbrook, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-10 record this season.

Wakefield will challenge Knightdale at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Wakefield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.7 points per game this season. As for Millbrook, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Millbrook Wildcats face off against the Wake Forest Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Millbrook knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Wake Forest likes a good challenge.
