Football Recap: Refugio Starts off Right with Win over Cotulla

Refugio took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 48-6 victory over the Cotulla Cowboys. Given the Bobcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 198th, while the Cowboys are ranked 805th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Zander Wills had a dynamite game, rushing for 169 yards and four TDs while picking up 10.6 yards per carry, and also picking up 40 receiving yards. Those four rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ray Lewis, who rushed for 40 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Refugio didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Matthew Perez, Jaedynce Lewis, and Kolton Taylor picked up one apiece. Refugio got some further help from Taden Perez: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made five total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Coming up, Refugio will head out to challenge London at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cotulla, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Brackett at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
