Softball Recap: Malden Comes Up Short

Malden dropped their record down to 20-8 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Kennett Indians, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 on April 1st.

Malden saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mariah Loya, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Loya has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.

As for Kennett, they pushed their record up to 22-6 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 20 matches by eight runs or more this season.

On Kennett's side, Handley McAtee made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). McAtee was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Kennett let Lynnley Patterson and Emma Tinnin run wild. Patterson went 3-for-4 with one home run, while Tinnin got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kynsly McCaig, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Malden has already played their next contest, a 10-0 victory against Puxico on the 1st. As for Kennett, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-0 win against Senath-Hornersville on the 30th.
