Basketball Recap: Stockdale Comes Up Short

Stockdale lost against Centennial back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Stockdale Mustangs took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Centennial Golden Hawks. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 707th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 285th).

Centennial was led to victory by Michael Gutierrez and Acen Zuniga. Gutierrez posted 12 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals, while Zuniga earned ten points and six steals. Zuniga has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brendan Keefer-Johns, who put up five points and nine boards.

Stockdale has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Centennial, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-8.

Stockdale has already played their next game (against Liberty), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Centennial will face off against Frontier at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Frontier has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
