Softball Recap: Magee Comes Up Short

Magee extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping them down to 4-9. They lost 15-3 to the Raleigh Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-1 back in March.

Paige Beasley was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Carson Drake was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Raleigh, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-17 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by ten runs or more this season.

On Raleigh's side, Raelyn Henry spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Raleigh got a massive performance out of Haylee Buffington, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, two triples, and three RBI. That's the most runs Buffington has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Laney Powell, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Magee will square off against St. Andrew's Episcopal at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Saints have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.11 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Raleigh, they will welcome Southeast Lauderdale at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.
