Riverview is a perfect 5-0 against Blake since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Riverview Sharks will be taking part in a tournament against the Blake Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. Riverview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Riverview fell victim to Freedom and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 7-0 to the Patriots. Having soared to a lofty 29 runs in the game before, the Sharks' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Riverview saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Boltz, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Blake). Everything went their way against Tampa Bay Tech on Saturday as Blake made off with an 18-8 victory. The Yellow Jackets haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Anthony Mathews made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Brett Valerio and Victor Mendez did most of the damage at the plate: Valerio scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Mendez scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits Mendez has posted since back in April of 2024. Marcus Smith was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Blake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Riverview has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. Blake's victory bumped their record up to 3-10.
Blake's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Riverview has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .447. It's a different story for Blake, though, as they've only averaged .335. Will they be able to contain Riverview's hitters?
Everything went Riverview's way against Blake in their previous meeting back in February, as Riverview made off with an 11-1 win. Does Riverview have another victory up their sleeve, or will Blake turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
