Softball Game Preview: China Spring Cougars vs. Franklin Lions

A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars challenge the Lions at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as China Spring comes in on six and Franklin on four.

While China Spring didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-21-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They skirted past West 7-6.

Samantha Stanley made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Stanley was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Brooklyn Jamerson was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she's stole this season. Emma Swanson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

China Spring kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West onlymanaged five hits.

Meanwhile, Franklin has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.25 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Lorena 13-12.

Franklin pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.2 runs. As for China Spring, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
