The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Bulldogs came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while the Panthers are ranked 436th).

Meanwhile, Hughes Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a 47-32 bruising from Bonham.

Jefferson's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-3. As for Hughes Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.

Everything came up roses for Jefferson against Hughes Springs when the teams last played back in February of 2020, as the squad secured an 83-36 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jefferson since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
