Basketball Recap: Axton Caskey's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Homer over Wakefield

Homer lost against Wakefield back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Homer Knights lost 64-38 to the Wakefield Trojans. The Knights' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it five in a row.

Homer lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Axton Caskey, who posted nine points and four steals. Homer is 3-1 when Caskey posts three or more steals, but 1-18 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Leidy Hunter, who scored six points and five rebounds.

Wakefield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cael Johnson, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Johnson a new career-high in shooting accuracy (86%). Carter Kratke also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Homer's defeat dropped their record down to 4-19. As for Wakefield, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Homer will take on Lutheran-Northeast at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Wakefield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
