Recap: Wekiva Mustangs vs. Horizon Hawks
The Wekiva Mustangs and the Horizon Hawks squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Wekiva Mustangs had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 46-44. Wekiva's defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Wekiva still got an impressive performance from Tierra Coleman, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds. Jasmine Pooler was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Horizon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Amaya Mitchell, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Smith, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and seven steals.
Wekiva's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Horizon, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.
Wekiva is on the road again on Wednesday and plays Kathleen at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Florida (Wekiva is ranked 115th, while Kathleen is ranked 95th). Horizon's road trip will continue as they head out to face Lake Minneola at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th. Hopefully Horizon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
