Baseball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Snags 15th Win in Last 16 Games

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cardinal Gibbons walked away with it. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the New Bern Bears a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Crusaders have won 15 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Andrew Riedel was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Bryce Fitzsimmons was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Cardinal Gibbons hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive contests.

Cardinal Gibbons has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for New Bern, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-13.

Coming up, Cardinal Gibbons will take on Wake Forest on Friday. The Crusaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. New Bern does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
