Softball Game Preview: Wickliffe Blue Devils vs. Chagrin Falls Tigers

The Wickliffe Blue Devils will venture away from home to take on the Chagrin Falls Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wickliffe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Wickliffe took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Lake Catholic, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Blue Devils skirted past the Cougars 3-1. The victory was familiar territory for the Blue Devils, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Leigha Blazetic spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Madelyne Prosuch, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Ava McGarry also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Chagrin Falls fell victim to Rocky River and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Pirates, falling 10-0. The Tigers have struggled against the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Chagrin Falls' defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Wickliffe, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Everything went Wickliffe's way against Chagrin Falls in their previous matchup back in April, as Wickliffe made off with a 14-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
