Baseball Recap: Phillips Academy Comes Up Short

Phillips Academy was the 6-1 winner over Belmont Hill when they last played one another back in April of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Big Blue fell just short of the Sextants by a score of 5-4 on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that the Big Blue have lost by just one run.

Phillips Academy got a good showing from Michael Gilligan, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Luke Gallo was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Logan Umbarch was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Phillips Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Belmont Hill, their victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2.

Looking ahead, Phillips Academy will challenge Varsity Opponent at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Belmont Hill, they will take on Tabor Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
