The Berkeley Prep Buccaneers will face off against the Dade Christian Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Berkeley Prep comes in on five and Dade Christian on seven.
Berkeley Prep saw some tournament action on Thursday. They came out on top against John Carroll Catholic by a score of 6-3.
The team relied heavily on Carson Binder, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Farrar, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Dade Christian got the win against McArthur on Monday by a conclusive 15-2. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Carlos Chirinos made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Chirinos was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
In other pitching news, Jadel Marrero looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Yael Amador and Ylurey Melfor did most of the damage at the plate: Amador went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Melfor scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. That's the most stolen bases Melfor has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Kelvin Perez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Dade Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 11.
Dade Christian pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Berkeley Prep, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.
