Baseball Preview: Piute Meets Green River

The Piute Thunderbirds will square off against The Green River Pirates at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Green River has given up an average of 17.0 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Piute came out on top against Tintic on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run third inning. The Thunderbirds put the hurt on the Miners with a sharp 10-2 victory. The Thunderbirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by eight runs or more this season.

Piute saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cody Schnabel, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances while posting 2 RBI, 1 run, and 2 walks. The two RBI were his most since the 14th, when he went for 5 vs. Tintic.

Piute took the easy way to first and finished the game with 16 walks. They have not posted that many walks since the 5th, when they served 21.

Meanwhile, Green River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 14-2 to Wayne.

Piute has now won five of their last six games on the road. That run has powered them to a 6-3 record this season. Those road wins were due in large part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Green River, they have now lost 10 of their last 11 games on the road. That's still a better percentage than their 0-8 record this season.
