Basketball Recap: Martinsburg Falls Short Against Ranked Washington

On Monday, Martinsburg faced Washington in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Martinsburg Bulldogs took a 66-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Washington Patriots. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 67-63.

Washington got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dj Boardley out in front who went 11 for 20 on his way to 23 points. Another player making a difference was Michael Thompson, who posted eight points in addition to 13 boards and three blocks.

Martinsburg's defeat dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Washington, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Looking ahead, Martinsburg is taking a road trip to face off against Spring Mills at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Washington will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on February 21st.
