Football Recap: Forrest City Find Success

It looked like the Kentucky Derby when Forrest City duked it out with Rivercrest on Friday. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out the Colts 58-56. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since October 4, 2024.

Kevin Young was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 389 yards and five TDs while picking up 15.6 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Vonterrious Williams, who picked up 203 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Forrest City was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 485 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

When it comes to explaining why Rivercrest lost, don't look at Jayden Young. Despite the final result, he rushed for 163 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and also picked up 48 receiving yards and one score. Lexx Latham also helped out as he racked up 136 rushing yards.

Forrest City's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Rivercrest, they now also have a losing record of 1-2.

Forrest City and Rivercrest will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Mustangs will challenge rival Lonoke at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Rivercrest is set to square off against their familiar foe Harrisburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
