Mesa Ridge came tearing into Friday's game with 17 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.6 points), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 50-40 victory over the Coronado Cougars. Given the Grizzlies' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Cougars are ranked 270th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the defeat, Coronado had strong showings from Lyrik Smith, who posted 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals, and Jalyn Jarboe, who had 11 points and five boards. That's the most steals Smith has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Omar Dubose, who scored four points and three steals.

Mesa Ridge pushed their record up to 18-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.1 points over those games. As for Coronado, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-20.

Mesa Ridge wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 57-44 victory against Palmer Ridge on the 15th. As for Coronado, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars challenge the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coronado is facing Harrison at the right time seeing as Harrison is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
