Recap: Irwin County Indians vs. Pelham Hornets
The Irwin County Indians were the 56-46 winner over the Pelham Hornets when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. Irwin County fell to Pelham 58-52. Irwin County's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Jaylen Martin and Sam Guy certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Martin almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds, while Guy scored four points along with 13 rebounds and four blocks. Guy has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last 19 times he's played. Javion Woodard was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Irwin County's loss dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Pelham, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-10.
Irwin County won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Brooks County at 5:00 p.m. on February 10th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Georgia (Irwin County is ranked 471st, while Brooks County is ranked 477th). Pelham does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
