Basketball Recap: Batavia Comes Up Short

Batavia lost against Notre Dame back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Batavia Blue Devils came up short against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, falling 44-22. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 515th, while the Fighting Irish are ranked 176th).

Notre Dame got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sofia Falleti out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Falleti has scored at least a third of Notre Dame's points. Another player making a difference was Gianna Falleti, who went 6-for-8 to rack up 13 points and three steals.

Batavia is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15. As for Notre Dame, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 13-4.

Batavia has already played their next game, a 71-28 loss against Pittsford on the 11th. As for Notre Dame, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-46 defeat against Elba on the 11th.
