Softball Game Recap: Wirt County Tigers vs. Gilmer County Titans

Wirt County extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-9 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 21-0 to the Gilmer County Titans, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Titans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-0 on Thursday.

As for Gilmer County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.

For Gilmer County's part, Addison Godfrey was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Godfrey has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Layla Smith was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaelyn Mullins, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Wirt County will challenge Paden City at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Gilmer County, they will take on Ravenswood at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
