Basketball Recap: Erin Murphy Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Great Mills

Northern hadn't done well against Great Mills recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Northern Patriots blew past the Great Mills Hornets 50-27. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.

Northern got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Erin Murphy out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Murphy has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikayla Jones, who posted seven points and five steals.

Northern smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Great Mills lost, don't look at ABRIL ESPARZA. Despite the final result, she had eight points along with five boards and three steals. TEYONA CARROLL also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Northern has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.0 points per game. As for Great Mills, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.

Northern will face off against Calvert at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Great Mills, they will challenge Lackey at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Great Mills is facing Lackey at the right time seeing as Lackey is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
