Basketball Recap: Floydada Victorious

Floydada picked up another tournament win on Thursday. They slipped by the Lamesa Tornadoes 67-66. Given the Whirlwinds' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 684th, while the Tornadoes are ranked 1409th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Floydada had a senior duo take command as Braun Hobbs went 14 for 24 on his way to 32 points in addition to seven boards and three steals and Sergio Valadez went 9 of 14 on his way to 20 points and seven rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Hobbs has scored at least a third of Floydada's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Gonzalez, who posted 11 points.

Floydada now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Lamesa, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Floydada wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 89-37 defeat against Estacado on the 12th. Lamesa will take on Crane in a holiday battle at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at.
