Softball Recap: Vel Phillips Memorial Has No Trouble Against Madison East

While Vel Phillips Memorial put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Madison East. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 24-0 margin over the Purgolders. The matchup marked the Spartans' most dominant victory of the season.

The team relied heavily on Addie Fritts, who went 4-for-3 with four runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tricia Balice, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Vel Phillips Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Vel Phillips Memorial pushed their record up to 10-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Madison East, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Vel Phillips Memorial will take on Janesville Craig at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Madison East does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
