Baseball Recap: Cardinal Newman Beats North Broward Prep for Their Fourth Straight Victory

After losing to North Broward Prep the last time they met, Cardinal Newman decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cardinal Newman Crusaders had just enough and edged out the North Broward Prep Eagles 6-5 on Thursday. The win was nothing new for the Crusaders as they're now sitting on four straight.

Blake Anderson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Anderson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Finn Duran, who scored three runs while going 1-for-5. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Dominic Demarzo was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

Cardinal Newman's record is now 4-0-1. As for North Broward Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Looking ahead, Cardinal Newman will head out on the road to face off against West Broward at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. West Broward will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. North Broward Prep will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Archbishop McCarthy at 6:30 p.m. on March 4th.
