Softball Recap: Havana's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Havana proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by eight) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Cuba/Spoon River Valley Wildcats 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Ducks have posted against the Wildcats since April 26, 2019.

Hannah Hodgson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Havana saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Karlie Hurst, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

The victory (which was Havana's third in a row) raised their record to 15-2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cuba/Spoon River Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season.

Havana will be playing in front of their home fans against Midwest Central/Illini Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Ducks' favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while the Raiders have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for Cuba/Spoon River Valley, they will host Delavan at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
