Baseball Recap: Waverly Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Waverly dropped their record down to 5-4 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell 4-1 to the Owego Free Academy River Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the River Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 on Monday.

As for Owego Free Academy, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-2-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games.

For Owego Free Academy's part, Elijah Lewis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks. Lewis has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Joe Palladino, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Brace, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

While Waverly had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
