Recap: Oceanside Mariners vs. Morse Shipbuilders

The Oceanside Mariners put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Morse 96-63 on the road. Given Oceanside's advantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Morse is ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Oceanside's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carter Galley, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 15 rebounds. Galley is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Cohen Galley was another key contributor, scoring 25 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.

When it comes to explaining why Morse lost, one person who can't be blamed is Gage Suitter. Despite the final result, he scored 25 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Suitter has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Calin Gould, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Morse were working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Oceanside pushed their record up to 12-0 with that victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Morse, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-9.

Oceanside will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Lincoln Academy at 6:30 p.m. Lincoln Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Morse, they will head out on the road to challenge Leavitt at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Leavitt has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
