Recap: Maranatha Christian Eagles vs. St. Joseph Academy Crusaders
The Maranatha Christian Eagles lost against the St. Joseph Academy Crusaders back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Maranatha Christian fell just short of St. Joseph Academy by a score of 45-42. It was the first time this season that Maranatha Christian let down their fans at home.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zeke Walker, who scored 20 points. Walker also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Shane Piester, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds.
Maranatha Christian's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5. As for St. Joseph Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maranatha Christian will face off against La Jolla Country Day at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. La Jolla Country Day presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Maranatha Christian in California (La Jolla Country Day is ranked 61st, while Maranatha Christian is ranked 564th). St. Joseph Academy is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Sage Creek at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. Sage Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully St. Joseph Academy likes a good challenge.
