Football Game Preview: North Brunswick Scorpions vs. Laney Buccaneers + Official Tickets

The North Brunswick Scorpions will challenge the Laney Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

North Brunswick will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Hoggard, who they had gone 1-7 against in their eight prior meetings. The Scorpions snuck past the Vikings with a 34-28 victory on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Scorpions' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 170th, while the Vikings are ranked 14th).

The critical scores for North Brunswick came from Kane Jenrette and Jaden Cokeley.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Laney and New Hanover, and Laney kept the tradition alive. The Buccaneers managed a 33-28 victory over the Wildcats on Friday.

North Brunswick better keep an eye on Jeremiah Brown. He was instrumental in Laney's win, rushing for 149 yards and two TDs while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Those 149 rushing yards gave Brown a new career-high.

Laney pushed their record up to 5-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 5.13 yards per carry in those games compared to only 3.04 in the others. As for North Brunswick, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.

North Brunswick couldn't quite finish off Laney when the teams last played back in October of 2024 and fell 34-31. Can the Scorpions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
