Basketball Recap: Ava Zicchinelli's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Miller Place over Islip

Miller Place was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 58-43 to the Islip Buccaneers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-43 back in December of 2024.

Miller Place lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ava Zicchinelli, who posted nine points along with seven boards and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Zicchinelli a new career-high in assists (three). Julie Orenzo was another key player, going 5 of 12 en route to 13 points.

Miller Place's loss dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Islip, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.

Miller Place is taking a road trip to challenge John Glenn at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Miller Place has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Islip, they will take on Kings Park at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
