Abbeville is 0-8 against Erath since April of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Abbeville Wildcats duke it out with Erath Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. Abbeville has given up an average of 14.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Abbeville and St. Martinville, and St. Martinville kept the tradition alive. Abbeville came up short against St. Martinville on Tuesday, falling 14-4.
Braylon Himel made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Trendon Campbell, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Erath entered their tilt with Kaplan on Tuesday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They never let the Pirates get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Seth Leger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Erath is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-9-1 otherwise. Leger was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Dominic Frederick was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Landen Derouen was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Abbeville's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Erath, they now have a winning record of 10-9-1.
Abbeville might still be hurting after the 32-2 defeat they got from Erath in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Abbeville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
