Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for New Buffalo

New Buffalo put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Lakers with a sharp 11-2 win. This was payback for the Bison, who suffered a 15-6 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Colten Lijewski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Vaughn Nikkel, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Nicholas Wolfe was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one run.

New Buffalo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

New Buffalo's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Our Lady of the Lake Catholic, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: New Buffalo beat the Lakers by a score of 9-2 later that day.
