Preview: The Academy Wildcats vs. Colorado Academy Mustangs
The Academy is 0-4 against Colorado Academy since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Academy Wildcats will look to defend their home court against the Colorado Academy Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Monday, The Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 66-62 to Peak to Peak. The Academy has struggled against Peak to Peak recently, as their matchup on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The Academy might have lost, but man, Trey Boychuk was a machine: he scored 31 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Boychuk has scored all season. Gavin Massler was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Colorado Academy scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They snuck past Kent Denver with a 80-76 victory. The win was nothing new for Colorado Academy as they're now sitting on four straight.
Colorado Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Simeon Woldeyohannes out in front who scored 22 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Woldeyohannes scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Bratis, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds.
The Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Colorado Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season.
Things could have been worse for The Academy, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 53-38 loss to Colorado Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2023.
