Football Game Preview: Richton Rebels vs. Taylorsville Tartars

Richton hasn't had much luck against Taylorsville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Rebels will head out to face off against the Tartars at 7:00 p.m.

On Friday, Richton was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 34-30 to Stringer.

Despite the loss, Richton got top-tier performance from B.J. Brown, who rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Brown is becoming a predictor of the Rebels' success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is 3-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, Taylorsville came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 42-12 win over the Bulldogs. With the Tartars ahead 28-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Taylorsville's win came from a few key players Richton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Karryon Phillips, who rushed for 111 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Tayshawn Scott was in the mix as well, providing Taylorsville with two scores.

The victory got Taylorsville back to even at 4-4. As for Richton, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 4-4.

Richton was taken down by Taylorsville 58-7 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Can the Rebels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
