Ranked No. 1 nationally by MaxPreps, Chino Hills (Calif.) finished off an undefeated regular season Thursday night with a 92-72 win over Etiwanda.

The Huskies are averaging 99.5 points per game and have surpassed the 100-point mark 13 times – including totals of 131, 125, 124 and 116. Chino Hills has seven wins over teams that have appeared in the national Top 25 this season.

Now comes the hard part.

On Friday, the CIF Southern Section announced the 16 participating teams for the Open Division playoffs. Included will be nationally-ranked Sierra Canyon (No. 6) and Bishop Montgomery (No. 17) along with Mater Dei (No. 7 national computer ranking), Redondo Union (No. 9 in computer rankings) and Corona Centennial.

Brackets and pairings will be released Saturday.

Thursday against Etiwanda, Chino Hills finished strong with a 31-19 fourth quarter. Junior LiAngelo Ball led the way with 32 points.

Older brother and senior Lonzo Ball – headed to UCLA – was honored before the game. The leading candidate for MaxPreps National Player of the Year honors, the 6-foot-6 point guard has over 2,000 career points along with over 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists.

Incredibly, the top-ranked Huskies start two freshmen – the youngest Ball brother LaMelo and 6-9 flyswatter Onyeka Okongwu.

The fifth Chino Hills starter, junior Elizjah Scott, is a marvel in his own right. With the build of a SEC outside linebacker, Scott is a vicious finisher and perfect sidekick to the Ball brothers.
